Highlights of Mayor Rick Baker’s Presentation
General
Pedestrian safety education efforts resulting in fewer crashes in St. Petersburg.
The city has experienced a 33% reduction in the number of total pedestrian crashes over the last two years, including a 42% reduction in the number of youth pedestrian crashes.
Crosswalk - LED Rapid Flash Installations
The city has completed the installation of its 18 Enhancer, LED rapid-flash beacons at various mid-block crosswalks throughout St. Petersburg.
Ten of the devices have been installed at school crossing locations to assist children as they walk and bike to school.
The Enhancer crosswalks are continuing their exceptional performance with a sustained average of 82% of drivers yielding to pedestrians as required by law.
The devices will be installed at additional locations once the Federal Highway Administration adopts the Enhancer as a standard traffic control device.
