"NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGES OF TAMPA BAY" TOPIC OF NOVEMBER SPEAKER SERIES
St. Petersburg, Fla. (October 29, 2007) - Are you aware that there are three National Wildlife Refuges in the Tampa Bay area? Join us for an informative presentation as Mr. Ivan Vicente provides an overview of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the National Wildlife Refuge System, and the three refuges in the Tampa Bay area and their significance to wildlife and people. He will also discuss relevant ongoing issues that are affecting these areas and how you can become involved in protection efforts. The program will be presented on Tuesday, November 13 at 7:30 p.m. at the Lake Maggiore Environmental Education Center, 1101 Country Club Way South in St. Petersburg. Admission is free.
Ivan Vicente first became involved with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at age fourteen when he volunteered with the Puerto Rican Parrot Recovery Project. After graduating from the University of Puerto Rico, he served in the Peace Corps in the Republic of Slovakia for two and one half years. Afterwards, he began working for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service where he worked as an outdoor recreation planner at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge for five years. Recently, Mr. Vicente transferred to the Chassahowitzka National Wildlife Refuge Complex where he currently serves as a public use specialist.
The Friends of Boyd Hill Nature Park Natural History Speaker Series is co-sponsored by the city of St. Petersburg and is offered monthly from September through April on the second Tuesday of each month. The series offers unique and fascinating presentations on Florida ecology, natural history and conservation by authorities in the field. For more information, call 727-893-7326.
