MAYOR LIGHTS UP THE WATERFRONT FOR THE HOLIDAYS

St. Petersburg, Fla. (November 20, 2007) - Mayor Rick Baker will “throw the magic switch” to light St. Petersburg’s annual Holiday Display in Straub Park, located along Bayshore Drive between Second Avenue and Fifth Avenue North on Friday, November 23 at 7 p.m.

The holiday entertainment begins at 5 p.m. with The St. Petersburg Community Band, Cheryl Lee “ShowStoppers” and Radio Disney. Free admission, blanket seating and concessions are available. The downtown St. Petersburg businesses also invite you to stroll the area to see the decorated windows for the holidays.

The waterfront holiday display continues nightly until January 1. The display features over 12 professionally created and lighted decorations, including a 42' tall tree, a celestial arch, Santa’s Castle, candy cane spray, bells, Santa’s Animated Flight School (124' long x 36' high), animated flickering candles, Peace on Earth scroll with poinsettia blooms, elf with candy canes, filigree scroll tree (14' wide x 30' tall), elf feeding deer and Santa’s lighted gateway (36' x 25'). Also visitors will find twinkling white lights amongst the park’s many trees, Santa’s sleigh and village, a giant greeting card display and other decorations. Downtown’s Central Avenue will be also be lined with holiday lighting from Eighth Street, east to the city’s picturesque waterfront. Call 893-7335 for more information.
