Welcome to the City of St. Petersburg's Purchasing Department's Web Site. Accountabilities

The Purchasing Department obtains, manages and disposes of supplies and services for the city of St. Petersburg.  Activities include:

  • Seeking and selecting reliable sources for supplies and services.
  • Expediting the delivery of supplies and services to meet requirements.
  • Keeping user departments informed about market conditions, lead times, price trends and availability of material, equipment and supplies.
  • Prescribing the process for reporting, evaluating and responding to vendor performance.
  • Disposing of surplus and obsolete assets to the best economic advantage.
  • Increasing the utilization of small businesses by providing these businesses with the maximum practicable opportunity to bid.
  • Promoting socially responsible practices throughout the procurement process.

Areas of real estate, land surveying, engineering, architectural and major construction services are managed by the Real Estate and Engineering/Capital Improvements departments.

Awards:

Achievement of Excellence in Procurement
Award from the National Purchasing Institute (NPI) in 2005, 2006 and 2007. Presented annually, the award is designed to recognize organizational excellence in public procurement. The award measures innovation, professionalism, productivity and leadership attributes of the procurement organization.

The Outstanding Agency Accreditation Achievement Award
Recognizes agencies that lead the public procurement profession. The City of St. Petersburg's Purchasing and Materials Management Department was first accredited in February 2003 and re-accredited in February 2006.
