"Serving The Community"
The Sanitation Department disposes of 328,000 tons of refuse per year. In performance of their duty, sanitation employees service 78,000 residential accounts totaling 8,112,000 pickups annually; in addition, they service 5,900 commercial accounts. This department provides recycling centers throughout the City and processes over 50,715 tons of recyclables at five brush sites annually, recycling 5,488 tons of newspapers, glass and other materials, and more than 45,227 tons of yard clippings into free mulch. The community appearance division removes graffiti and snipe signs and keeps vacant lots clear of overgrowth and debris. Sanitation is also responsible for removing dead animals, furniture & appliances collection, rodent control treatment, and refuse container repair and replacement. At our RecyclaMat / Brush Site Locations yard waste is collected and processed into mulch that is available at no charge for the residents of St. Petersburg.
